Why should anyone bother to take a course in art? Sometimes it’s hard to take a course simply for the enrichment of it. Our lives are frequently fast-paced, and it may not seem practical to add something else. It may seem as if life is so very busy that we can’t fit anything else into our schedules. But it’s absolutely true that we need enriching experiences; it’s absolutely ok to do an activity for the sake of doing it. An activity with artistic intent, such as pottery, provides a person a creative outlet, and an activity that possibly can help to alleviate stress and anxiety.
A course such as pottery has benefits for the body and the mind. Stress and anxiety can take a toll on both our mind and body, and research has shown that there are many stress-relieving benefits to having a creative outlet. Pottery isn’t the only subject, there are many activities that provide similar benefit. Activities that allow a person to experiment and explore. Activities that give a person the freedom to create. And there is benefit to both the young and the old; virtually anyone can participate.
Creative courses also stimulate brain function. When a person learns new skills, they challenge their brain. And the mental focus required to learn a new skill will help to block out the day’s stress and anxieties. And hopefully the focus required to do the skill becomes a refined skill in itself; focus is a mental skill that can be used in other aspects of life
