It’s Never Too Late to Learn Something New

26 Apr It’s Never Too Late to Learn Something New

It’s absolutely important to keep learning, regardless our age; many different studies have proven that adults who participate in continued learning will receive greater cognitive benefits than those who don’t. It’s especially proven for those adults who learn a new activity. And it doesn’t matter what the activity is, only that the activity is something that is entirely new. It’s important to continue learning, and Billings Community Adult Education Program can help you participate in something that could completely change your life. It’s completely up to you: Check the course catalog for the classes offered, and signup!

One of the types of courses offered frequently is music, particularly learning to play a musical instrument. Music is a skill that challenges many of our different senses. For instance, when we read the music, we use our eyes and while we play we use our sense of touch. Do both at once, and we are honing our fine motor skills. When we listen to someone else playing music, or when we listen to the music we play, we connect our emotional centers, engaging our memory skills. And while we read the music we are developing our literacy skills. And when we play music we connect the two halves of our brain; it’s amazing to think, but it has been proven that a musician’s brain has larger fibers that connect the two halves than the brain of a non-musician.

It’s important to take some time for yourself in your life; take some time and try something new. You never know, the thing you try might turn out to greatly benefit your everyday life.
