07 Mar Personal Enrichment
It can be hard to dedicate time to something new. Incredibly difficult to be able to dedicate time and energy to something that is outside of our everyday routines. Studies show that people are much happier and healthier, that people live longer lives simply because they devote themselves to learning something new. Luckily you have Billings Adult Community Education. Check the catalog: classes on photography, dance, art, and dance (to name only a few).
There is no one perfect time to take up a new hobby/learn some new skill. We have to make the time. And in most situations, it’s not overly difficult to find that time; most of the courses offered in the Billings Adult Community Education catalog require very little time commitment. It’s proven that doing something for no other reason than personal enrichment and fun, that that activity alone will help to alleviate other stresses and anxieties from our everyday life. Remember that stress and anxiety can have a negative impact on the mind and the body. And the cognitive benefits of learning a new skill/hobby are numerous. In fact, studies have shown that the process of learning a new skill helps to ward off the debilitating effects of aging and mental deterioration.
Sometimes people may be discouraged to do something because they don’t believe themselves to be “creative types”. But the truth is that you don’t have to be any one particular type of person to do something for the sake of personal enrichment/entertainment. But oftentimes people discover that they are able to participate in any number of activities; it doesn’t take a certain type of person to participate.
Make sure to check the course catalog, and chances are that you will find something that interests you. There are numerous course offerings in the catalog. If you have any questions about the courses offered, or the schedule, then call the Billings Community Education office today.
